1979 Black TVR Taimar Turbo, (34,000miles) - £22,995.00

Using a 40 point spec blue printed Essex V6 from Broadspeed; the Taimar Turbo was the first British Turbocharged production car. The car had phenomenal performance in 1979 when a Motor magazine comparison with the Porsche Turbo of the same era showing a significant performance advantage over the Porsche.

Motoring press at the time waxed lyrical:-

“Incredible Taimar Turbo - Shattering Performance with incredible flexibility”

“So smooth is the Flow of power, so cushioned the effort of the Turbo, that what little time is lost in gear changing is minimal, the sensation being of a jet swooping towards a flight down a runway” - Motor 1976

Sitting in this Taimar will certainly fill you with nostalgia. It was the sports car of its day with everything, and even more with its wide upward opening tail gate giving unrestricted access to the rear low level deck.

DPM 843 V has a recorded mileage of 34,026 it remains a stunning vehicle wearing its age well. Research will show that the vehicle, which is in its 50th Birthday year, has not had an incident free history.

Following an incident in October 1988, at the immature age of 9, DPM843V was declared not worthy of repair, following a very minor accident (minor front end damage to the bonnet). The then owner, having blamed the incident on the car as being too fast, was able to re purchased and repair the car.  At this stage he repainted it Blue.

Not content with this there was a further incident, under the same ownership, in October 1990 (obviously a fateful month), where the car was again damaged and not worth repair. The owner’s wife at this stage refused a re-purchase.

Step in Adrian Venn who already knew DPM843V. Adrian assessed the car and concluded that the accident had been the result of an incorrectly installed clamp, which in turn resulted in a steering fault, hence the mishap.

Adrian purchased the car and proceeded to fully rebuild it at which stage he changed the colour and modified it to the current spec.

Recent work carried out by ourselves includes:

  • Replacement alternator
  • Renew Handbrake cable
  • Refurbished Turbo and replace oil pipe
  • Both exhaust Manifolds repaired
  • Fuel Pipes checked and replaced as necessary
  • Driver’s seat foam replaced

In summary this Taimar Turbo represents a potential investment opportunity as there were only 30 Taimar Turbos built.
